Why Battery Subscription?

At IXXY our goal is a working smoke alarm in every bedroom and on every floor of every home in America.  It's not enough to have a smoke alarm.  Dead or weak batteries mean the smoke detector may not work.  Yet all across America, there are smoke detectors beeping to tell you their battery is low.  Or worse, the battery has been removed to stop the beeping!  Why?  Because it's hard to remember to check the alarm and buy 9-volt batteries.

Our solution?  Join the IXXY Club and get a Battery Subscription!  Never have a dead or weak battery again.

When seconds count, a functioning smoke alarm may make the difference between life and death.

How old and how many?

Did you know that smoke alarms wear out?  Most manufactures recommend replacing their smoke alarms within 10 years.  If you don't know how old your smoke alarms are, you are taking a risk that they won't be there for you when you need them most.  We recommend replacing them now unless you are certain they are less than 10 years old.

Did you know that you should have a smoke alarm in every bedroom, in the hall outside bedrooms, in every room with electronics (computers, audio/video equipment, laundry dryers, etc.), and at least one on every floor?  How many do you need?

Order your smoke alarms now.

One in five home fire deaths in America resulted from fires in homes with smoke alarms that did not work.  Why?  70% of them had dead or missing batteries...

I'd like to think I'm a responsible guy, but the fact is that I need reminders.  I have to admit that I am one of those people who have had a smoke alarm sitting on the dresser without a battery in it for months on end because I just couldn't remember to buy a 9 volt battery.

A friend suggested that someone ought to start a subscription service to send batteries to people on a regular basis so that they always have exactly as many as they need and they can switch them all out on the same day every 6 months.  I thought that was a pretty good idea, so I started IXXY.
